Old Sap

From the Rockies to Appalachia

at least a bearded man with a banjo.

Old Sap is a banjoist and songwriter, born and raised in Chicago, who grew his musical roots in Bigfork, Montana playing throughout the Pacific Northwest. Comprising Folk, Folk Rock, Americana, and Old Time Blues, Sap's songs run the gamut from upbeat and rhythmic to soothing and contemplative, often all in the same song. Fast, old-timey clawhammer meets modern song styles and finger-picked compositions to tell stories of loss, of finding joy in adventure and uncertainty, and of learning to bear life’s ugliness with grace and a sense of humor.

Old Sap is currently based in Asheville, North Carolina. They have appeared at such venues and festivals across the country as Red Ants Pants Music Festival 2017 (White Sulphur Springs, MT); Casey's (Whitefish, MT); over 100 bars, breweries, cafes, and music venues across Western Montana; Martyrs (Chicago, IL); Uncommon Ground (Chicago, IL). Old Sap was also a finalist for the 2017 Brown Bag Songwriting Contest in Asheville.

Though the ensemble varies from show to show - from solo to full-band - the current full-band ensemble of Old Sap includes Jackson Grimm on electric guitar, Mike Roberts on Drums, and Stephen Horvath on Bass.
